We understand that everyone is looking to enjoy a well-earned break. You can be confident that should you be unable to proceed with your holiday as planned due to a future Government imposed Covid-19 lockdown or travel restriction, you will be offered a suitable alternative later date. You are however strongly recommended to take out personal holiday cancellation insurance to cover you for cancellation due to sickness of yourself or any other members of your party (including as a result of contracting Covid-19).


About your boating holiday

A self-drive boating holiday is the perfect getaway during these unusual times. Your boat provides a self-contained floating holiday home, allowing you to spend quality times with your friends and family whilst discovering some of the most spectacular scenery and isolated beauty anywhere in the UK (and beyond). The UK waterways offers over 4,000 miles of cruising on the Broads, canals and rivers, with a huge choice of boats to suit every budget and party. What's more, you don’t need any previous boating experience as full instruction is provided on arrival.

 

Covid-19 - The measures in place to protect you and your crew

As an industry, we have been working hard to make your boating holiday experience as safe and enjoyable as possible. This includes many changes to our normal check in, hand-over and return procedures as well as the preparation of your boat. We are all following the guidance and processes as set out and agreed between the boat hire industry (via our industry body, 'British Marine') and the UK Government (DEFRA).

 

Before you arrive - Your boat will have been thoroughly cleaned and all bed linen and towels (where supplied) washed at a minimum temperature of 60 degrees. All touch surfaces are then disinfected with an antiviral disinfectant and in many cases, a 'fogger' is then used to spray a very fine antiviral mist over all surfaces and soft furnishings.

 

Your arrival at the boatyard - If you are given a set arrival time, this is to ensure that you are able to check-in safely with the minimum of contact with other guests. The check in will be outside (and under-cover where possible) and we ask that you bring a face covering for your safety and protection. Your reception and hand-over team may also use a mask and visor plus other PPE as necessary. You will be asked to provide the names of all members of your party (where not taken at the time of booking). You will be asked by the operator to confirm that none of your party have experienced any of the symptoms of Covid-19 within the past 14 days.

 

Your boat handover - Your handover will be carried out with the minimum number of guests in close proximity to the trainer as possible for the safety of all. Your instructor will wear the appropriate PPE and we ask that you also wear a face covering.

 

During your holiday - Once away on your boating adventure, you can choose to remain self-contained with your family and friends on board your boat. You are strongly advised to carry out frequent and thorough (20 seconds) hand washing every time you leave or board your boat and frequently at other times during the day. You are also requested to comply with all of the other Government guidelines. If you or any of your party develop Covid-19 symptoms whilst on your holiday, please moor your boat safely and contact the boatyard as soon as possible using the emergency number in your boat manual.

 

At the end of each day, please moor your boat with care and consideration to others, ensuring that you leave adequate space to allow for good social distancing.

 

At the end of your holiday - Please return your boat on time to allow for adequate cleaning and disinfecting for the next guests. We also ask that if possible, please strip the bed linen and place in the laundry bags (where provided). On your return home, please report any Covid-19 symptoms that develop within 14 days your holiday (dial 119) and advise the boatyard as soon as possible.

 

If you are unable to take your holiday - If you are unable to take your holiday as planned as a result of testing positive for Covid-19 or being subject to a Government mandatory lock-down or self-isolation (due to Track and Trace instructions), please contact your boatyard directly as soon as possible. Your holiday contract is direct with your boat operator who will work with you to offer you an alternative suitable date. In some cases, where this is not possible, a refund may be offered depending upon the circumstances.
